Famous throughout les 3 Vallées, the summit of Saulire is a magnificent passing point between Méribel and Courchevel, perched at 2,738m. It’s here, on one of the Méribel slopes, that the Saulire relaxation chalet is found, just above the mid-station of the Saulire Express gondola lift. The terrace overlooking the pistes offers a superb viewpoint and there’s no problem when the weather is poor, as the interior is fully equipped !
At the top of the Legends chairlift, a very original structure awaits lovers or skiers looking for a relaxing break : a romantic hideaway carved from wood into a heart shape. Very Méribel ! And as a bonus, it has a beautiful view over the Allues valley.
An unmissable Méribel summit, thanks to its pistes and panoramic viewpoint, is the Roc de Fer, another inspired spot for a great picnic. Accessed via the Olympic chairlift, le Roc de Fer has retained a pleasingly wild feel, ideal for spending a quiet moment in the heart of the mountains.
At the summit of the Roc 1 gondola lift in Les Menuires, you can enjoy a snack on the picnic tables then sunbathe on the loungers, while enjoying the view over la Pointe de la Masse, les Yvoses and le Vallon du Lou. You can also recharge your phone batteries at the free recharging points.
A picnic is an opportunity for a break somewhere you’ve never stopped before. For example, the Loy hamlet, in the Saint-Martin-de-Belleville area. Here, several little chalets d’alpage (chalets built high in the mountain pastures) offer a glimpse of the valley’s past. When the sun is shining, take a seat on a rock near the piste and enjoy some time out …
Val Thorens, Europe’s highest ski resort, offers some of the most magnificent viewpoints in the Alps. This is especially true of the foot of the Thorens and Chavière glaciers, accessed via the Moraine and Col lifts. Virgin slopes as far as the eye can see, corries sculpted by glaciers all around you – it’s a shot of pure high mountains. And to crown the lot, the old refuge makes the perfect spot to tuck into a picnic in the sun !
Not far from Courchevel Moriond, at the top of the Signal chairlift, picnic tables offer skiers a chance to enjoy their sandwiches while drinking in a sublime panoramic view. Take the time to savour this moment in the sunshine, before setting out to discover the Chapelets piste, the easternmost piste in les 3 Vallées ski area.
