Since the resort's opening, the Roc de Fer sector in Méribel has established itself as one of the most iconic venues for alpine ski competitions. With its downhill course, it has hosted numerous events, including the downhill race at the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships. This competition showcased the excellence of the resort, drawing the world’s top athletes to an exceptional playground that blends technical skill and speed.

But Roc de Fer is more than just a competition venue—it embodies Méribel’s rich skiing history, with slopes designed to challenge skiers of all levels. Over the years, its reputation has only grown, attracting both passionate sports enthusiasts and professionals in search of thrilling experiences.

To continue providing an unparalleled skiing experience, the Roc de Fer sector has undergone several upgrades since its creation.

In 2019, the Roc de Fer sector in Méribel underwent major upgrades aimed at modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the skiing experience. These improvements have strengthened accessibility, safety, and comfort while preserving the area's authenticity and competitive spirit.

What’s new? The Legends chairlift, a premium and unique addition to the Les 3 Vallées ski area. This high-end chairlift, equipped with heated seats, provides exceptional comfort for skiers, even on the coldest days. With this new installation, Méribel reaffirms its commitment to offering top-tier comfort and service to its visitors.

The Roc de Fer sector also saw a significant overhaul of its ski lift system. The Cherferie chairlift was relocated, and two new slopes were created, including the now-famous Choucas run. Equipped with artificial snowmaking, Choucas ensures optimal snow conditions throughout the season. These new slopes provide a wider variety of trails suited to all levels, from beginners to expert skiers. Thanks to snowmaking technology, consistent snow quality is guaranteed ensuring an exceptional skiing experience at all times.

The 2019 improvements have further enhanced the appeal of the Roc de Fer sector, offering skiers a smoother, more enjoyable, and more diverse experience. With modern facilities and a wide range of slopes, this area remains a must-visit destination within Méribel and Les 3 Vallées!

This year, Roc de Fer has even more surprises in store for you! The tunnel has been transformed by artist Franck Blériot, who created a stunning fresco titled "You are a Legend". This artwork, inspired by the past and future of competitions in the area, immerses skiers in a dynamic and artistic universe.

At the summit of Roc de Fer, a brand-new relaxation area has been set up, offering skiers an ideal spot to unwind. With picnic tables, a heart-shaped hammock, and a photo spot to capture a unique souvenir, this space invites you to take in the breathtaking scenery while enjoying a peaceful break. It’s the perfect place to admire the beauty of the mountains and experience moments of serenity before heading back onto the slopes.
